Along with Mum’s leg warmers, I had been knitting this shrug at the same time as an alternative. It turned out pretty well and goes with my 50’s style dresses.
In preparation for winter, I’ve knitted a few things.
A double strand beanie to keep out the cold.
And for those extra cold days, a headband to wear under my beanie.
One of the joys of autumn is its light. It is gentler and makes colours really pop at you. Like one afternoon when I noticed how the lovely light in the house interplayed with the dark wood.
Outside, the shadows were dark and deep.
There were two birthdays over the weekend – Bridie Beagle and I were born on the same day (if not the same year). We were treated to some cupcakes from our local bakery.
It’s March, daylight is shrinking, and the nights are a little nippier. That said, it’s not quite cold enough for leg warmers, but my mum is a planner. She is planning to travel to some cooler climes in the next 12 months and requested a pair of these months back.
Lucky she did because it took me almost 5 months to knit these up. Technically it was very easy (just a long tub), but 4 ply sock yarn is a bugger to knit with.
Hopefully these will do her well on her travels to the Antarctic and Arctic Circles.
While visiting a friend I, who has a young son, I noticed how life-like his toys were.
No fiddly plastic things here, these toys are robust.
It’s autumn and the fruit is ripe for the picking. Time to head out to Bilpin to check out the orchards.
To start off, a pit stop under the oak tree.
And some refreshments.
Then, the main event.
Hubby’s height was put to great use as he picked 3 types of apples, 3 types of pears and some plums – 18kg in all – hauled it back to the car! What did I do? I took care of Bridie Beagle, who enjoyed her walk around the orchard.
After class I headed back to the city and had my lunch at Town Hall. Lots of people are enjoying the deck chairs that the council has set up in various places.
The sandstone masonry is still beautiful to me.
Nowadays much of Sydney’s architecture isn’t overly inspiring.
I’m in love with film. I used Fuji Superia ISO 400 stock and shot with my father’s 1970’s Olympus OM-2.
The colours are so different to digital. I didn’t realise how much I missed seeing the world in this way.
It’s nice to sometimes appreciate scenes from the everyday. These were taken on a weekday, once again in Hurstville main street.

All in all, the greengrocers were doing a roaring trade.
The last two I took on film. After 10 years of photographing on digital, the look of film photographs is refreshing.

The main street was closed off to traffic and stands set up. There were crowds aplenty – and they were willing to queue for a freebie!
