Once again, I was at Brown Mountain, although this time I was heading for the coast, not the mountains. After crossing the treeless Monaro Plain, the wooded hills that lined the Bega Valley provided a welcome change of scenery.

Sleepy Hollows – Bega Valley
The day was forecasted to be a scorcher, so it wasn’t surprising that Merimbula and the Bega Valley was shrouded in heavy mist. It was rather dangerous to stop somewhere in the mist, so as soon as I’d driven above it, I stopped to take this photo of the valley below.

I didn’t mean to stop at all at Wolumla, only that I thought I’d left something back at Merimbula, 15km away in the Bega Valley (thankfully I didn’t). After checking the boot, I noticed this interesting building…
The sign says “Gunpowder Trading Post”. I don’t think it’s within the law to sell such things anymore, but it tells you a lot about the history of the town, don’t you think?
