It is almost bedtime, and the beagle spends her final moments meditating… in front of the heater.
Favourite Feeds – Pumpkin Soup
The temperature has really dropped this week, and I’m thinking about getting an electric blanket for my bed. It’s time to make some more soup, particularly one of my favourites, pumpkin. This version I made last year had a little apple (from the batch I picked in Bilpin) to balance out the sweetness of the pumpkin. I think I might do the same this year.
Favourite Feeds – Blueberry Muffins
Blueberry muffins are staples of cafes, bakeries and take-away joints all around Australia, but often they’re stodgy and way too big. Hence my favourite blueberry muffins are homemade by me from a recipe I cut out of SMH years and years ago. It’s got the right muffin consistency but is light, moist, full of blueberry goodness, and cupcake size. The secret ingredient is natural yoghurt, which I think is better than buttermilk when making muffins.
Canine Interlude – Sunbathing
It’s not only humans that love the sun. Princess Beagle has a knack of finding the sunniest corner of any space and plonking herself down to sunbathe until she is hot, hot, hot. Since her tongue isn’t hanging out just yet in this photo, we can safely assume that she’s not heading for the shade for some time yet.
Canine Interlude – Being Human
It’s bedtime, and the beagle is in a huff. You see, she thinks she’s human, and so expects to be treated like one. When her ‘parents’ disappeared all day, she was so very disappointed.
“You’ve ignored me all today.”
“You haven’t fed me enough.”
“You haven’t walked me enough.”
“I’m so unloved.”
If she knew her problems were miniscule compared to a human’s, perhaps she won’t be so eager to be one?
Floral Interlude – Easter Blooms
My friends know that although I like chocolate, I’m not a very big eater of it. I’ve been known to have Easter eggs left over in September. So I was happy to receive flowers instead. A very fine, low-calorie substitute.
Canine Interlude: Ran Ragged
I forgot another thing the beagle loves: walks. Due to the busy nature of her owner, she doesn’t have as many as would like. Hence after a long-ish walk in the middle of a hot March day she was ragged, but very happy.
Canine Interlude – More Please
Beagles have a placid enough temperament, but one thing they do seek in quantity (apart from food) is attention. This princess has her way of letting us know exactly what she wants.
