A couple of kilometres out of Augusta is Cape Leeuwin. Away from town, the landscape here is more open.

The shoreline makes great black and white photos too. I like the texture of the rocks and sky.

Like in Windy Harbour, Augusta had clear blue-green water and an uninhabited island just off-shore.
Augusta – Part 1
Augusta is a small town at the southern end of the Margaret River region. In the bad old days it was a whaling town, but nowadays it is a holiday and fishing village. The waters here were clear like further east at Windy Harbour, but it was also much more touristy – a bit of a shock after a few days in the ‘wilds’ of the Southern Forests.
Mount Chudalup – Part 8
To finish off our visit, we found a pretty ‘glade’ of moss on the side of the boulder. There was even a mini stream flowing by.
That concludes our visit to the Southern Forests of WA. But we’re not done with WA yet. Next, we visit the Margaret River region.

We also saw some amazing grass trees on the slopes of the boulder. They don’t get this big back east!

Apart from the cracks, there were some other interesting holes in the rock.

In the west, we could see sand dunes. They are part of an extensive system of mobile dunes that are 100km long.
