The spread for this wedding was much more casual that the last wedding I went to. We shared platters of seafood and antipasti for entree and fruit, cheese and mini tarts for dessert. In the middle was a choice of chicken, steak or fish mains. I chose the fish, which didn’t turn out to be a good idea. Not enough sauce, although I had no complaints about the portion size.
Wedding bouquets are usually a standard issue, but I thought this one was rather old fashioned, but nevertheless stunning.
A lovely Saturday afternoon at Coogee Beach. Absolutely perfect weather, which is just as well, because 24 hours later it was raining cats and dogs.
And to end… the wedding cake. They can be quite simple of gargantuan affairs. This one is the latter.
It apparently took the cake-maker a month to create this. Taking a closer look, you can see why.
Admittedly, it’s a bit too showy for me, but hey, to each their own.
If the mains were wonderful then the desserts were fantastic.
I had a trio of creme brulee: vanilla, coconut and raspberry flavoured morsels. The vanilla one had the best flavour.
But my neighbour’s chocolate mousse bomb was just, wow. It was rich, smooth, not too sweet, and completely decadent.
Of course, it’s inevitable that I post photos of the food.
Let’s just forget about the entrees because I forgot to take photos of them. For the record, I had the duck, which was done Peking style and nicely cooked.
But it’s the mains that I was hanging out for.
As the menu states, this is Chicken Ballontine with Apple, Fennel, Celery, Shallot and Green Olive Salsa. I didn’t have it but my neighbour commented that it was cooked nicely, and the salsa was especially good.
This is what I had.
Barramundi fillet, potato dauphine, broad bean and crab bisque. The fish was cooked to perfection. The potato dauphine was kind of like a posh pomme noisette to me, but I loved the flavour of the bisque. Delicious.
It was a rather posh wedding, as can be seen from the seating.
What is it about Spring and weddings?
No murder’s occurred here, just the sap of a gum tree bleeding through.
