Continuing on the ‘weird and wonderful’ theme, we take a look at other oversized insect of the tropics. You might be familiar with stick insects, but the ones I’ve seen in Australia are rather delicate-looking. Not so in the tropics.

Weird and Wonderful – Part 2
We made a visit to a butterfly park. It was too difficult to take photos of the butterflies in the ‘wild’, but they had an enclosure where we got to see them up close. These are baby butterflies, just emerged from their cocoons.

Lazing Around
On the footpath, we saw a lizard, hogging a patch of sun. It kind of looks like a bluetongue but it definitely doesn’t have a blue tongue.
The Tops – Dead or Alive
We saw a bit of wildlife up on the Tops – a rock wallaby, colourful finches (and heard many more birds), but the only ones we managed to capture were these:
A skink basking in sunlight.
And the shell of a cicada, still lodged to the tree.
Big Sky Country – Cattle
And here are the fore-said Hereford cattle, lingering by the gate.
There really was some awesome sky (and country) that afternoon at Rawdon Vale.
