I made up a big batch of pesto the other day with a big bunch of basil that I harvested from my in-law’s garden. After a few pesto pasta meals I was looking for another way to use it up, and found the perfect recipe in Stephanie Alexander’s Kitchen Garden Companion. The muffins came out lovely and light and more-ish. The secret ingredient was the buttermilk (also a leftover). I also added some English spinach and grated cheddar to the dry ingredients for a bigger flavour hit. Yum!

Not Happy, Jan
Bridie Beagle here, and I’m not happy, Jan. My parents wouldn’t open the car window so I couldn’t stick my head out and sniff. Too hot they said. Pfft. Then they dousted me with water and called it an accident (the water container overturned while Dad was taking a corner) and I had a soggy bum for most of the trip. It’s really a hard life being a beagle.
Summer Picnic – Part 3

Summer Picnic – Part 1
We went exploring on the Central Coast the other day, taking the road from Somersby, through Kulnura and Bucketty, and into Yengo National Park. We drove along the remnants of the Old Great North Road, convict built in the 1820s and 30s, to a locality called Mogo Creek. The creek was a mere trickle where we picnicked, but there were some beautiful trees.

A Travel Book Cover
Another creation that will be useful – a cover for my paperbacks so that it won’t be mangled in my handbag/backpack. It was also a very quick and easy knit, and a good way to use up my stash.

My 1920’s Hat
I previously knitted this hat for a friend. It was so cute that I had to knit one for myself.
